During the free practice on Saturday morning a problem with the engine was found on the Corinthians car. It had to be replaced just one hour before the qualifying session.

The Azerti Racing team did a great job, with Robert Doornbos setting the fastest time in his qualifying group. After beating Galatasaray in the quarter final, Doornbos had to battle for a place in the final against his Azerti team mate: Italian Davide Rigon in the RSC Anderlecht car. A very close and exciting battle saw Corinthians on top with a tiny difference of only one tenth of a second. In the final French driver Jousse in the AS Roma car was a bit too strong.

"The start of that race was somewhat of a chaos," explains Robert Doornbos: "Because AS Roma next to me went very slow in the formation some cars, including AC Milan, came up on both sides of my car even before the lights went out. So they didn't keep their line in the formation, which normally is mandatory and thus we went four wide approaching the first corner. I was blocked and only steered out of the corner in 6th place. It's very frustrating to see all the hard work of both the Azerti team and myself go up in smoke." Robert finished 7th.

"During the second race my start was again not as good and once again my engine stalled whilst entering the pits for the mandatory wheel change. This resulted in a 10th place at the finish."

"The weekend of the 17th and 18th of July at the Zolder circuit in Belgium is a home race for my team. I hope we have more luck there so I can contest the Super Final battling it out with the 6 fastest clubs. Azerti Racing did a great job again this weekend, we deserve better than what we had so far!"
